    ...and we're back.

Interviewed for a lab tech job at IUPUI today.  Not too bad a place.  The professor I'd be working under is working on viral resistance.  He's even worked on giving cells resistance to HIV, so you know it's gonna be interesting, relevant stuff.  Interview was a little nerve-wracking.  There's also a few other people in the mix, so we'll see.  With all the bureaucracy that big a university has, it might be late next month before I find out whether I've been offered the job.  For the time being, I've got a steady paycheck, so I'm doing all right.

In other news, I think I was channeling Lawrence Welk for about an hour earlier today.

Tonight is a me night.  No phone calls, no TV with Mom and/or Nick, just me, computer games, iTunes, and a hitherto unread Terry Pratchett novel of Discworld.

    ---------------------------------------

    In other news:

-I got a call from a company here in town that I might like to work for (they design, sell, and service technical equipment for labs), but I haven't spoken to a live person yet.  Stupid phone tag.
-My mother's dog managed to break one of his nails off near the base and bled all over the kitchen floor before we got him to the vet.  He is now fine.  (He actually managed to shed his little bandage glove on his own, and we're not sure how.)
-Managed to get Office 2007 installed on both computers.  Very handy, that, as I can now start applying places again (no Word, so couldn't edit resume without it saving as a .txt file).
-Went to band competition at Warren Central and thoroughly enjoyed the performances, particularly a smaller band all the way from Missouri.  Most polished band there, thought they should have had first place hands down.  Screw Homestead and their huge, sloppy, cacophonous collection of instruments. (Note: Pike = room from improvement [read: last place])
-The folks that have been working at Half Price longer more or less have set routines.  That means everybody's locked into a certain day off, leaving me only one option (assigned by the assistant manager, Wendy).  As such, my regular weekday off (everybody gets one, usually) is Thursday.

    -----------------------------------

I need some cruising time.  Thank goodness for the opportunity to drive to Chicago and back (for a reason, not just to drive) this weekend.  Gonna have to drive back at 7am CST, but it'll be a prime opportunity to just chill out.  Speaking of chilling out, I'ma go have me a fudge bar (Healthy Choice, not being a super-fatty).

  • The good and the bad...

The good:  I got paid today, my first full two-week paycheck.

The bad:  I got a smaller chunk than I thought I would.  I knew I'd have some taken out, just didn't realize how much.

The good:  That's still some $500-odd that I didn't have that I now do.

The good:  I got my glasses repaired today.

The bad:  I had to take Nick to practice, so I need to pick them up tomorrow despite the fact they were ready tonight.

The good:  Colts win.  Convincingly.  Very happy about this.

The bad (and in no way connected):  My computer definitely has hardware problems.

The bad (continuing from the last):  I couldn't install a download of Microsoft Office 2007, no matter that I've tried two days in a row, both as a lump file and several files downloaded consecutively.

The bad (continuing):  I also can't install Microsoft Office 2000 from disks my mother had lying around => BIG hardware problems.

The worse:  My parents computer is in the shop, so I can't use theirs.

The worst:  Despite my nicely augmented bank account, I want a job that I can make a career out of.  You know, in my chosen field, biology.  To do this, I need to apply for jobs.  I can't e-mail people my resume or cover letter if I don't have Microsoft Word on my computer, hence all the Microsoft Office installation attempts.  Very, very annoying.

The good:  I opened a bottle of the best champagne I've ever tasted last night.

The better:  I got happily drunk and made a couple of drunk dials, talking about good music with good friends.

The best:  I'm not going to be here this weekend.  I'm going to be in Valpo, seeing friends.  Good times.
